100 pages of an altered book with watercolored and collaged images.

Most aptly described as a visual poet, Mimi Shapiro mixes trinkets and treasures, words and images, into a powerfully evocative body of work. Each piece conveys a sense of time and place as seen through the mind's eye of memory, combining reality and fantasy to create an amazingly cohesive vision. Her deeply "connected" artistic expressions are accessible and immediate, while allowing interpretation to the imagination.

Creativity is the mirror image of dreaming, and I love to play with new concepts in collage, painting and photography... the more mixed the media – the better. Spontaneity and creativity come from different levels of experience. My art "happens" when I trust my intuition. I think it would be a much better world if everyone made art. The scribble of the line, the feel of the pastel, paying attention to the minute, and finding things to add into my collages, fuels my creative urges.

My collages and altered books are the sort of activity that allows me to share my stories with you...and instead of the town square, the web connects us, no matter where we are on this planet!
Mimi Shapiro's works are included in many notable collections both in the United States and internationally. In December 2005, her work was exhibited in the Contemporary Art International Biennale, in Florence, Italy.
