The piece entitled 'The Letter' is a 3-D collage in a box/book. L.T. Dougherty created this one in homage to 2 older women who she admires very much for their creative work - Dale Copeland, for her efforts of running and maintaining the international collage exchange for 9 years, and the spirit in which the show is set up, and her partner's mother, who has discovered in her 70's that she has a talent for quilting. She is just beginning to explore the creative side outside of the patterns of traditional quilts.

The fact that both of these women have had an influence on L.T. Dougherty's way of working is what inspired this piece - discussions about quilts led to the designs for the frontpieces in the popups series, and participating in the international collage exhibit led her to consider popups and collage, a medium she has never worked with before. It might be nice to have them bond together in a piece, considering they have never met, and yet in a roundabout way, have both sparked a series of work.

Sculptor, painter, writer, l.t. dougherty has been working in her distinctive style since she was 8 years old. A graduate of Bealart and Ontario College of Art, her myth cabinets have been exhibited across Ontario since 1990, and has works in private collections across North America.

Coining the phrase "myth cabinets" in 1992 to describe her mixed media assemblage works created mostly in boxes, she creates her work from 'garbage' and recycled materials. Having rediscovered in 2001 with the advent of the webcam portrait series 'souls_in_the_machine' that she actually can paint in the style that she has always wanted to, she has been working in oils on wood from 2001 to now.
