After much consideration about how to work with the theme of TheRepublic of Letters, or as I came to think of it, the trading of ideas by notable people through their writings, my approach became personal. My father was a lifelong writer and a journalist who’s private letters were full of ideas, advice, witticisms and observations on the human comedy. |
Who better for me to turn to for this project? I have used his
words from letters, news articles and even college papers in the book
with each page being a sort of Illuminated manuscript.Where possible,
the original papers are used as elementsin the collages.

In my own work more often than not, I use words both as theme and
visual element in the paintings and sculptures. I am a Californian,
having lived from the north in Marin County to the very south in San
Diego and points in between.

Currently I have a studio in San Diego
and live nearby on the “Island” of Coronado. I am a studio artist and
art educator with an MFA in painting. |
